Publication on Visual Art 2021
An additional award for a Publication on Visual Art 2021 is presented to Reykjavik Art Museum for their publication series accompanying Kjarvalsstaðir’s retrospective exhibition, which has made an important contribution to the promotion and study of Icelandic visual art.
Four retrospectives have already been curated in this series and each exhibition has been accompanied by a book which also serves as a catalogue. A great deal of ambition characterizes the publication, which is both in Icelandic and English. Each book contains pictures of the artist’s work as well as high-quality texts by scholars, and the artists themselves, which deepen one’s understanding of the artist’s oeuvre. These are extremely well designed published objects, each one of which connects with the work of the artist who is the subject of the book.
