"Welcome to 'Between Sleep and Wake', where I invite you to explore the curious world of sleep paralysis through my art. Here, you'll find paintings that reflect the strange state between being asleep and awake, where reality blurs and dreams feel tangible. Each piece is my attempt to capture what it's like to experience sleep paralysis firsthand. It's not always pleasant; themes of isolation, fear, and loss of control often weave through the imagery. As you move from one painting to the next, you'll notice a progression, or perhaps regression, into a kind of delirium where shapes shift and shadows loom large. But amidst the chaos, there's a certain beauty—a rawness that comes from confronting the subconscious. The colors I've chosen might seem intense, almost overwhelming, but they're meant to draw you in, to make you feel the energy of the moment. This exhibition isn't just about looking at pretty pictures; it's about delving into the depths of the mind, both mine and yours. It's about acknowledging the strange and sometimes unsettling aspects of our own consciousness. So, take your time, wander through the gallery, and see where the journey takes you. And who knows, maybe you'll come out the other side with a new perspective on what it means to be awake, asleep, and somewhere in between." With a lifelong passion for creativity and artistic expression, Þorgrímur is a multifaceted talent. His journey into the world of art began at a young age. with an artist father, Þorgrímur was raised in an environment full of artistic inspiration and was surrounded by creativity and art. This upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for the power of artistic expression as a means of communication and self-discovery. Having participated in numerous drawing and art classes since childhood, his skills have been honed through years of practice and exploration. Þorgrímur began his formal education in animation at Tumba Gymnasium in Stockholm, where he delved into the complex world of visual storytelling. Although his formal education is incomplete, the experience provided invaluable insights and techniques that continue to influence his work today. Þorgrímur draws inspiration from the richness of ancient cultures and has immersed himself in research into history, mythology and symbolism. This fascination with the past informs his artwork, imbuing it with meaning and depth that awaits viewers to explore beyond the surface. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Þorgrímur is also a trained yoga teacher and uses meditation in his creative process. This holistic approach not only enhances his artistic vision but also gives his work a feeling and room for introspection. With his varied background and unique perspective, Þorgrímur continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression and invite the audience on a journey of discovery and reflection with each piece.
