Þórunn Franz (1931-2018)

Þórunn Franz safnasafnid

The wool yarn seems to undulate across the surfaces of Franz’s landscapes, which are inspired by photographs and postcards. The colours are arranged according to memory, slightly intensified and more exaggerated than the original. Franz was a well-known craftswoman and a pioneer in the field of embroidery patterns. She managed the Handavinnubúðin craft store in Reykjavík. She held and taught courses in the field of handcrafts around the country.
