Künstlerhaus Bethanien
Künstlerhaus Bethanien provides residencies for Icelandic artists in Berlin. Each residency stay spans one year.

Icelandic visual artists, or artists with a significant connection to the Icelandic art scene, can apply for a year-long residency stay at Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
Deadline 8th of September
About the residency
Künstlerhaus Bethanien was founded in 1974 and is one of Germany´s most prestigious and respected venues for contemporary art. Typically, around 25 artists from around the world work at the space, which offers access to an extensive international network of contacts and collaborations within the art scene.
The residency provides participating artists with valuable connections to curators, museum professionals, journalists, and others active in the field. In addition to hosting artists, Künstlerhaus Bethanien organizes exhibitions, publications, and events. Each artist-in-residence is given a solo exhibition, curated and produced by the institution. Artists are provided with a private studio (40 m²), as well as a full access to workshops and a library. The studio includes a bed and kitchenette, allowing artists to live and work in the same space if they wish.
We encourage applications from experienced artists who are seeking opportunities beyond Iceland. Applicants are expected to have exhibited their work in recognized museums and exhibition venues, both in Iceland and internationally.
The Ministry of Culture and the Viljandi, Memorial Fund fund the project.
