About the Icelandic Visual Arts Fund

The Icelandic Visual Arts Fund was established in 2013. The role of the Visual Arts Fund is to support and promote Icelandic visual art by providing financial assistance and supporting projects that align with the mandate and activities of the Visual Arts Council.

The fund aims to promote artistic creation, increase visibility, and broaden knowledge of Icelandic visual art, both domestically and internationally.

The fund offers project grants designed to facilitate the execution of works in the fields of artistic creation and art research. Additionally, it provides preparatory grants for projects that fall within the fund’s scope.

Application rounds are twice a year. Assessment committees evaluate the applications and make recommendations for the Visual Arts Council.

The Visual Arts Council is responsible for the operational and financial administration of the Visual Arts Fund. The council and fund operate under the Visual Arts Act and regulations set by the minister. Althingi decides on an appropriation for the fund in the annual Budget Act.
